Thousands of fans, film personalities and leaders of various political parties on Sunday paid floral tributes to Tamil film thespian Sivaji Ganesan, who died on Saturday.
Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad visited the actor's residence and placed a wreath on behalf of the party.
Former Union finance minister P Chidambaram also visited Ganesan's residence to pay respects.
The body of Ganesan was brought from Apollo hospital to his T Nagar residence early on Sunday to enable the people to pay homage to the thespian.
There was a near stampede outside the house of Sivaji where a huge crowd had gathered to have a last glimpse of the departed soul.
Policemen had a tough time in regulating the surging crowd, which was allowed to view the actor's body, filing past it.
Some were seen openly crying and others consoling them.
As a mark of respect to Ganesan, the Tamil film industry will remain closed Sunday.
The cremation will take place on Monday.
